He is the most mellow guy I've ever run across. Only 2 dogs in our neighborhood does he get tense about -- a Boxer and a Rhodesian Ridgeback who seem to want to fight. I feel alot of tensions goes on because owners assume their dogs are "perfect"!! Kai greets all at our front door and then comes back in to fetch me. Love those Corgis!
I don't feel it's the breed but the owner!

Re: Nevada AB 110 is signed into law

Thankyou Nevada. Sadly, I have had more chihuahuas come up to my black lab and snap at her than any other breed. Responsible large dog owners understand people can feel intimidated by a large dog, and therefore, typically take extra care to make sure their dog is under control.

Re: Nevada AB 110 is signed into law

As a Native Nevadan, I am amazed and thrilled that this legislation has gone through in my state. I have had three pitties, 2 dobermans, several German Sheppards, and a number of other dogs. I've been rescuing dogs for more than 50 years and the only dog who has ever bitten me is a cocker. The man who carries a riot stick is a perfect example of prejudice, but what he said that was true was "if you don't control your own dog". Finally - laws that make sense. Some of the sweetest dogs i have met have pit bulls. I have owned wonderful German Shepherds. I have only ever been bitten by a nasty little toy poodle. How many animals have you paid to be spayed or neutered, for a low income or indigent person who cannot afford the operation? Have you pushed for anti kitten/ puppy mill rules? Have you pushed for spay / neuter laws?
Do you educate people to spay neuter their pets, and keep them indoors?
Do you volunteer to educate people on not dumping their cats and kittens ?
Do you volunteer to help place animals who are adoptable?
Or are you just sitting on your fat backside spewing vitriolic hatred at people who are trying to solve a PEOPLE-CREATED problem?
And for the record, managed cat communities don't generally nail wildlife that people want around.
Unless you are an advocate for the rat population, which would make sense, with the way you write.
Now go scamper back to your little hole until you can come back with working solutions to the problem instead of mis-directed hate speech.

Re: Live release rate for cats approaches 90% in Albuquerque

typo: more than 95.5% = more than 99.5%

Re: Live release rate for cats approaches 90% in Albuquerque

Ooops. Just one slight problem. That is less than 0.5% of all the feral cats in Albuquerque. So more than 95.5% are still breeding out of control. A far far cry from the 75%-85% that is required for TNR to START to become the least bit effective.

Isn't it fun how easily that you TNR psychotics are so easily deceived and manipulated by your own minds?

Re: Nevada AB 110 is signed into law

The two sweetest, most loyal and playful dogs I have ever known are pit bulls. They have given me more joy than I can tell you. And the only serious injuries I have witnessed have involved yes. a pit bull (the spikes on his collar as well as his owner's leather jacket--I do not kid-- are suggestive, though I try not to judge), but also breeds known for their gentleness--a poodle, and (believe it or not) a very golden lab. ALWAYS ask an owner if you can approach a dog. And if you don't like a dog running toward your children, tell them to calmly walk away.

No one should pre-judge a dog by breed. Francis, thank you for your post and for founding your organization.
I, too, am not in favor of breed bans. In fact, in March I attended my first ever rally, a peaceful Anti-Breed Specific Legislation Rally on the 16th Street Mall in Denver, CO that was put together by organizers at teampitaful.org. Dogs are not born mean, they are made mean, and that's what my sign said. A chihuahua could rip your face off if the dog has always been mistreated.

I appreciate your information about Nevada AB 110 but, in reading the article, my heart sunk when you mentioned 'our corgi mix, Joe-Joe, an ungrateful little so-and-so, whom I rescued from the streets of Los Angeles.

Perhaps this was an attempt at being witty but, personally, it made me feel awful for Joe-Joe. Why would you say something like this about your dog?

There's probably a good chance that you don't know a lot about Joe-Joe's background and I wonder what kind of message this statement sends to your readers about how you, the Co-Founder of Best Friends Animal Society, really feel about your dog?

I have always adopted rescue animals and have been a foster mom for over 12 years and a foster failure twice. I've always felt these dogs are genuinely grateful. I can only hope you truly will have a talk with the person in the mirror and perhaps in the future, this kind of comment could be reserved for a personal conversation between you and your trainer.

Sincerely,

Too many people who get a "gladiator" type dog do it for status and because other people fear them. Then they neglect the dog and don't give it proper exercise, boundaries and discipline, at best. Many times they are trained to be fighting dogs, and if not good at fighting, they end up as bait dogs. Pit bulls are the No. 1 animal put down in shelters. That is not acceptable. Let's ban BREEDING and BUYING pit bulls and if you really love dogs and care about the breed, then you can go to the shelter and adopt one.

Re: Nevada AB 110 is signed into law

Did you even bother to read the article?

Re: Nevada AB 110 is signed into law

Listen up Francis, keep your dogs aways from me and my children.
